Sannihit Sarovar is one of the most ancient water tank of Kurukshetra. Word Sannihit means congregation. It is believed that on the occasion of every amavasya (new moons day) the waters of all tirthas present on the earth assemble here in Sannehit tank. Performing special prayers and ablutions here leads one to the salvation. A holy dip taken in its waters during solar eclipse is considered highly meritorious and bears the sanctity of performing thousands of aswamedha yajans (horse sacrifices). According to Srimad Bhagavata Purana on the occasion of one total solar eclipse Lord Krishna had also visited Kurukshetra along with his relatives from Dwarka & Mathura region.
