प्राचीन कुरुक्षेत्र का रामायण कालीन तीर्थ
महाभारत में इस तीर्थ के धार्मिक महत्त्व को वर्णित करते हुए कहा गया है कि इस तीर्थ में जाने पर सहस्र गोदान का फल मिलता है। वामन पुराण में भी इस तीर्थ की धार्मिक महत्ता का स्पष्ट रूप से वर्णन करते हुए कहा गया है कि यह तीर्थ सभी पापों का नाश करने वाला तथा पृथ्वी पर किए गए सभी पापों को स्नान मात्र से दूर करने वाला है। प्रचलित मान्यताएं इसे महर्षि वाल्मीकि की तपोस्थली भी मानती हैं।

Tirtha of Ramayana era
The religious importance of this tirtha is described in the Mahabharata. Here it is said that by visiting this tirtha, one gets the merits of donating a thousand cows. The Vaman Puran also clearly mentions the religious importance of this tirtha and says that all sins committed on the earth are destroyed by taking a sacred bath in waters of this tirtha. Popular belief also considers it to be the place of penances of sage Valmiki, the author of the Ramayana epic.
