पितरों एवं देवताओं के लिए संतुष्टि दायक तीर्थ
इस तीर्थ पर पितरों के निमित्त दिया हुआ दान अक्षय होता है इसलिए इसे अक्षयवट तीर्थ की संज्ञा दी गई है। वायु पुराण के अनुसार अक्षयवट तीर्थ जाकर जो व्यक्ति ब्राह्मणों की अर्चना कर उन्हें हव्य, कव्य प्रदान करता है, उसके पितरों सहित सारे देवता संतुष्ट हो जाते हैं। ब्रह्म पुराण में इसे पुलस्त्य मुनि की तपोस्थली कहकर कहा गया है कि नाश रहित होने के कारण यह अक्षय वट के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुआ तथा जो मनुष्य इस तीर्थ का सेवन और स्मरण करते हैं वह यज्ञ के फल को प्राप्त करते हैं।

Tirtha associated with ancestors and divinities
The donation given at this tirtha for ancestors is considered everlasting. Hence it is called Akshayavat tirtha. According to the Vayu Puran, a person who visits Akshayavat tirtha and worships Brahmins and offers them Havya and Kavya, all the gods including his ancestors get satisfied. In the Brahma Puran, it has been called the place of penance of sage Pulastya. It is also said that due to being indestructible, it became famous as Akshayavat and the people who visit and remember this tirtha get the merits of performing yajna.
