प्राचीन कौशिकी नदी तट पर स्थित तीर्थ
यह तीर्थ प्राचीन कुरुक्षेत्र भूमि की नौ नदियों (सरस्वती, वैतरणी, आपगा, गंगा-मंदाकिनी, मधुस्रवा, वासुनदी, कौशिकी, दृषद्वती, हिरण्यवती) मे से एक कौशिकी नदी के तट पर स्थित होने के कारण कौशिकी तीर्थ के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुआ। वामन पुराण में कौशिकी नदी को पाप नाशिनी कहा गया है। तीर्थ स्थित मन्दिर के गर्भगृह की दीवारों पर कालियदमन, मत्स्यावतार, सूर्यरथ, आदि अनेक भित्ति चित्रों का अंकन है।

Tirtha related to Mahabharata war
A reference of the tirtha is found in the Vana Parva of Mahabharata where it is mentioned after Rudrakoti Tirtha. According to local belief, water was. supplied to the armies from here during the Mahabharata war. Out of the seven wells of ancient times, only three wells are seen here now. In the past, the water of this tirtha was considered as pure and clean as the water of River Ganga. In Late medieval times, there was a hermitage of the famous saint Baba Dayalpuri, whose samadhi-temple stands along with the Shiva temple in the tirtha complex.
